WHO IS OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE?

On December 9, 1531, the Virgin Mary appeared to Juan Diego, an indigenous Mexican peasant, on Tepeyac Hill near Mexico City. She asked for a church to be built there, and left her miraculous image on his tilma as a sign. Our Lady of Guadalupe became the Patroness of the Americas, and her image has drawn millions of pilgrims for nearly 500 years.
